I decided that I want to foster a cat from the humane society in an effort to gain some companionship in my apartment. It will provide me with some companionship and another heartbeat in the apartment. I had a cat when I was younger so I know what caring for one is all about. Fostering allows me to care and love a pet in need without the commitment. I can do it indefinitely but am not sure if it's something that i'm up for. This is a way to test that.
I contacted the humane society and they replied saying they had a cat in mind for me. They asked me what i thought. I replied let's do it and they said that cat had actually been adopted that night. Great news for the cat, but that means that there is another one in mind for me.
My friend Alissa text's me and asks what is new? I said that I am getting the wheels in motion to foster a cat. She advised that she will be away from Dec.21-Jan.5 and is looking for someone to take hers for 2 weeks :) ! Completely random. Hahaha. I accepted and said yes. It's funny how my higher power had a cat in mind for me that will give me the chance to see if I can do it.
Stepping onto a brand-new path is difficult, but not more difficult than remaining in a situation, which is not nurturing to the whole woman.- Maya Angelo
That is lovely! I always say that a cat is one of the three things that makes a home a home. The most important one. We moved here 4 years ago with one cat--we'd always had two or more--and now three more have joined us. We are so blessed.

Good for you Jim. Mine was a duck and my HP kept it away from the feral cats around where I work and the mongooses. I got to rescue her and raise her and lately; a couple of weeks ago she left us to start a life of her own. We had a blast with her and she taught us how to QWACK!! my wife and I can do that just like a real one. Thank you HP...happiest came with feathers. Enjoy
That's funny Jim. Last night I was reading a story in a book called Chicken Soup for the Recovering Soul. It was about an alcoholic who was saved multiple times by a cat. Once he finally got his life together he told the cat he was free to move on as he was ok now. Just after that the cat passed away while sleeping on his chest. It was a lovely story.
That's a great share Jim .. I love the example of hp definitely at work .. Awesome situation .. Enjoy the two weeks ..
Omg Tracey .. lol chicken soup is Always So touching .. Cute story with that, I can barely get through some of the reads without bawling from some of the love in them .. I tried reading a chicken soup for the kids, etc.. and as I was reading to my youngest one night, she looked at me and said .. Are you Crying ??!! I said .. I can't hellllp it, this is soo beautful .. lol so then I read her another, .. she looked at me and said, Are you Crying ??!! .. I half laughed and said, I can't helllp it, this is so beautiful .. lol finally she said .. (the innocense of the child) .. that's it ! I'm not going to lye here and watch you cry all night .. We're reading chicken little ! lol and so we did .. when I think of chicken little, it really is a horrible little book compared to chicken soup ..
My cat rocks. Perhaps she did change my life. I got her in July of 2008. Got sober on October 1st 2008. My cat has been there through it all. When I moved out alone I had to leave her with my ex-A for about a month, but when I finally got into my own place, she made it so much better. I was afraid to live on my own. Now she has a nice big house to run around in, albeit there are 3 dogs that she does not love too much, and 2 parrots that she is indifferent towards (thankfully).
Anyhow, I predict you will be a cat owner by early next year LOL.
For several years, we had a bunch of stray cats in the neighborhood (a hoarder lives 1/2block away) and several times, one of the mother cats moved her babies in under my house. I was able to catch some of them and kept them in spare room for about a month each time to acclimate them to humans then took them to a no-kill shelter. The 1st batch I captured was 3 days after I had to put my 17yo kitty to sleep - my heart was broken but tending the new babies brought me the healing that I needed. One of the litters was new born & required bottle feeding - that was pure joy :-}
