My wife drank--what it taught me

After many, many months of apparent sobriety, my wife drank last night. I wasn't aware although I knew she was having a bad night. She called me today to confess, something that has never, ever happened before when she was actively drinking.

What this latest experience has taught me is two things--1--This disease truly is cunning, baffling & powerful. Despite enjoying life so much more as a sober person, and achieving nearly a year of sobriety, my wife still succumbed. It really never does go away. 2--Despite that, our qualifiers really can get better. My wife calling me today to tell me she made a mistake and drank is proof of this. Is she perfect? No. But it is true, genuine progress that she has made, and I am proud of her.

Hugs UTB,

The best news is that even if someone slips off the sobriety horse the greatest healing is that someone has the tools to jump back on. That is wonderful and a testiment to your own healing as well!

Hugs P :)
