The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
Went to an Alanon Big Book Study meeting last night. There was so much recovery in the room it was astounding. All the Alanoners had been through the 12 steps using the Big Book of AA. The honesty and sense of responsibility was awesome. The peace and the power too.
While AA's Big Book is not CAL (Conference Approved Literature) (so I'm surprised to hear of a meeting using it, unless it's just a thrown-together unlisted meeting), it is a treasure trove of information and insights. I'm personally very glad my sponsor required me to read the first 164 pages of it with two goals - see the A in my life in the pages, and see MYSELF in the pages.
These meetings are not in Alanon's meeting list because they use an AA book. They are very well-structured. There are a number in my state already and they are growing in number. I have a feeling this will increase more and more over the next 5 years. Keep an ear out.
There's a lot of cross-over these days as you probably see, from fellowship to fellowship. When I go to any Alanon meeting I always observe their traditions and group consciences and same when I'm in AA. It's funny, I NEVER thought I qualified for Alanon! But i now see that I was born human and have both affected and been affected by others.
I thank God that 12 years into AA I found Alanon. I need the tools of self-care and healthy boundaries and everything else it has to offer. I also like to give while there, too - it's part of my AA job! (Gets quite confusing, doesn't it!)
My sponsor had me attend an AA Open Big Book meeting when I first entered Al-anon. It was some of the best growth I had! Still refer back to the Big Book at times.
