My alcoholic son, who has a twin brother finally hit his bottom .. the twin brother was enabling his alcoholic brother big time & for over a year whenever he would phone to tell me the horrid stories about how his alcoholic brother hurt him used him, manipulated him, conned him, broke dates, commitments & promises....I would gently tell the non alcoholic son your brother has a drinking problem, the disease of alcoholism & its a progressive disease, that is very cunning, baffling & powerful. Finally today my two non alcoholic sons came over to see me. Both said Mom we finally realize you are right our brother does have a drinking problem & its affecting his thinking & behavior. They asked me what what can they do......I gave them the books getting them sober to read, I invited them to come to Al anon meeting with me or I could have a young Al anon man pick them up & take them to a meeting, one that I am not at if they like. They took the books & other AL anon literature & said they would be in touch. We did talk a little bit about detachment with love.

Finally a grain of hope...if all us non alcoholic's  family members work the Al anon program we will be giving my alcoholic son the best gift of love.
