This to shall pass. (share)

Hi, My name is slogan_Jim and I am a grateful member of Al-Anon. I would like to share on the slogan 'This to Shall Pass'

Tonight, I decided to become the GR of my home group. It's something I look forward to and a challenge that I am excited to take on. I have thought about it for awhile, consulted with other members and my sponsor and decided to give it a go. I am fortunate that I have the time, the energy and the willingness.

For the longest time, I have been watching people around me get married, enter relationships, settle down, etc. Because of this I have felt very left out. I thought that was the natural progression of things so I made every attempt to force feelings that weren't there, and try to play 'catch-up' with everyone else. Of course, as I have learned through Al-Anon trying to control situations and outcomes does not get you your desired result. I began to feel sorry for myself and complain that life wasn't fair. I needed to find something to get excited about again.

That's when my higher power reminded me that what I'm looking for is right under my nose. I feel that by getting active in the fellowship and working on my recovery my higher power is trying to tell me that there is more work to be done and that this is a partnership where which we must work together. No one person has the ultimate say. I am exactly where I am meant to be and ultimately, this to shall pass.

Thank You

Great Wisdom Slogan Jim

Thank you so much for sharing your growth and powerful awareness.

I too have found "This too shall pass " is all to true.   Life is constantly changing and the sands shifting.  Taking the next right action and living one day at a time are powerful tools to keep me living in teh now

Good Luck in your new GR Position

Great share Jim...Service work is commitment to my recovery first and equally to my group as a whole.  This too will pass is the great field leveler for me...it keeps my expectations and reactions real and doesn't only refer to the passing of negative stuff.  It refers to all stuff.  I love it because in program I've learned that what passes on now is followed by something else and don't we all just love the excitement of "what's next"??   (((hugs))) smile

Acceptance is the answer. I am a gay male and have watched most of my college and high school friends settle down and have families. For a good while, I thought that was "unfair" and I prayed to just be "normal." Well - turns out I now have a life where I have a wonderful partner, nice house, several children (that just happen to look like 1 cat, 2 parrots, and 3 dogs). I work with children day in and day out. I have 4 nephews. Nothing is really missing from my life. It all stemmed from accepting myself and then trusting God. I know all these "things" are also temporary and in the end, it will be back to just me and God again, but I am enjoying the ride and things will continue to work you for you too if you keep your focus positive an healthy as demonstrated in your share. Thanks for Sharing Jim! Keep up your work!

This phrase got me through 20 hours of labour with my first child: every time a contraction hit I kept saying to myself 'and this too shall pass'. It definitely kept me sane!
