GOD HELP ME

Do you have to live with her? I know having it in my face day after day was making me a nervous wreck. It sounds like you would never leave your niece in a bad situation but if the mother is unfit, you might could get temporary custody ????

My sister's coming home from rehab on Tuesday after only a week. A WEEK! After three years of spending more time drunk than sober and with drinking so much a part of her routine, what the hell good is a week in rehab going to do? I fully expected her to start drinking as soon as she came home but I thought my niece and I would get at least a few more weeks of peace. This is insane!

I'm with you MadMax. This crazy disease knows no bounds of logic. Hang in there. We are all praying for you. This message board is a huge lifeline, it is my birthday today and I think I will go to a meeting, only there do I seem to find a soft place to land with others who understand all too well this insanity. Stay strong. ts

Sometimes you need to take a break from life. Go the beach and just enjoy the day. Remember only you know the boundariese and limits you have. Respect YOURS. Give yourself that space you need. Don't feel quilty.

Hugs to you both.

Was it truly rehab, or was it just detox? That doesn't make sense....most of the rehab programs are a minimum of 30 days, but detox seldom lasts longer than a week.

Whether its rehab or detox, it's only one baby step -- the work has to continue.

Prayers for you and your niece to find some peace & comfort in all the insanity.

Maybe it is detox. She's been to rehab twice before for a month each. But this time she's went to a different place. I thought that was kind of odd. Oh well, we've got today and then two full days without her nonsense. Gonna try to live it up.

I wish. Problem is I don't make nearly enough money for the court to take me seriously.

(((((MadMax)))))...don't project...live in the moment if she isn't there yet, she isn't there yet.  Set your atmospher up...how would you like life to go in your home?  Draw it up, work it, enforce it with compassion and love.  Got a Higher Power?  Is your Higher Power part time or full time?  If your HP is not full time change it to full time.  AA and then Al-Anon adopted the use of a Higher Power because otherwise the disease was it and we were not.   I know how difficult this is.  I've been there and done that and I had to sit in the rooms over and over, listen with an open mind, learn and then practice practice practice what others were doing that worked for them.  If it worked for them it would work for me also cause what I was doing wasn't.  GOD IS HELPING YOU...DO YOUR PROGRAM PART.    Keep coming back ((((hugs)))) smile

It's the compassion part that gets me. Terrible as it may be, I no longer have any. My Dad says I hold on to my righteous anger the way my sister holds on to the bottle. Probably true. Maybe I need some mental rehab. I say that, but don't have the slightest idea where to start.

Aloha MadMax

I'd still encourage you to find some face-to-face Al-Anon meetings. If none are readily available, then locate some online meetings and participate. Get your hands on some Al-Anon literature, find yourself a sponsor and start working the steps. You do have a choice in how happy you get to be.

I've been thinking about doing an online meeting but I'm a little nervous about it. What goes on exactly?
