Medications and alcohol

showbar2.pngHi again,

Since things are getting worse with my (our) dad, he has been using pretty heavy medications. He is using Diazepam and Zaldiar ( a medication with tramadol included). Now both mecdications recommend not using any alchol what so ever. I have tried  telling my mom about the use of alchol, because she is the one who gives my father the alchol while is sick. But nothing is been done with this information and my dad is still drinking while using this (pretty heavy) medications. What to do? Do i (we) need to call their doctor and tell her about this? Do i (we) need to let this be their responsibilty? No clue what to do now.

thanks!

Dear

I understand your concern.  Mark has clearly  expressed my belief.   I would just like to add that attending alanon Face to Face meetings yourself could help YOU greatly.

We understand the anxiety and fears of which you speak.  We accept that we are powerless over alcohol, people, places and things  We deveop new tools to live by so that we can focus on ourselves, live one day at a time and find some serenity, courage and wisdom

Please checkout the meetings in your community  The number is listed in the white pages

You are not alonew

If your parents know it's contraindicated, calling the doctor wont stop much. He will lie to the doctor and say he's not drinking. Combining benzodiazepines (such as valium) and alcohol is certainly dangerous though. Beyond informing, not much you can do.

it's so hard to watch someone kill themselves....all the while they are saying " I don't have a problem"

Truly, there is nothing you can do but love them while they are here, and detach from their craziness.

In support,

RP
