to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
"Rational Recovery" is a program that is basically 180 degrees from AA.... it was started by someone who found no success in AA, and so it stands for many things that are exact opposites in the AA program. I'll call it "highly controversial", and try to leave it at that.
You will hear many stories about people who got sober without the help of AA, and there are definitely some out there..... Statistically speaking, however, I think these off-shoot programs cause way more harm than anything.... In fact, RR goes as far as saying that "meetings become obsolete" and that there is no need for them, etc., etc.... I have difficulty believing in this whatsoever.... you can guy dvd's and books from a 'for profit' outfit who claims to have the proverbial 'silver bullet' fix for addiction... sounds a bit suspect to me...
