I worked through my first set of steps recently with my sponsor. I found my sponsor in my al-anon face to face meetings and she is priceless. Sending you love and support!

There is quite a lot of Al-Anon lierature around and a 12 Step Recovery Forum on this web site.
It means to take one step reading at a time, stay with it, read other member's comments. Also to read in the literature about that one step and then the other steps and to try to work out what that actually means for you in your life.
For example the first step 'To admit we were powerless over alcohol' is very hard to accept because we have been trying for a long while to 'control' the behaviour of the drinker....and his behaviour is unmanageable by us.
This step needs to be 'worked over' in our minds and our then in our actions, to work forward to success for ourselves.
Hi there. Yeah, for ages I wondered how exactly people were working the steps. I could see that there were steps, but "working them" seemed like a myterious secret of the initiated. Lol. Then I discovered that there are some really clear guidelines in the book "Paths to Recovery", along with questions to write down/journal on and think about - maybe 20-30 for each step. That really helped me break down all the different aspects of the program into something that made sense in challenging my thinking and behaviour. Hope that helps. Good luck. Tigger x
