The material presented
here is not Al-Anon Conference Approved Literature. It is a method
to exchange
information, ideas, feelings, problems and solutions on a personal
level.
It happens, I've witnessed it before and got to see it again last night. Newcomers outnumbering the oldtimers at the start of the meeting. So we did the meeting on the pamphlet "Understanding Ourselves and Alcoholism". It was a refresher course for me and brought back lots and lots of newbie memories and behaviors and I was grateful that we were all there to turn on the light about this world wrecking disease and what it is and then start supporting each other into self focus. I loved the meeting. Give that pamphlet a try if you haven't already. (((((hugs)))))
I wish we were more focused on newcomers when these kinds of things happen. I am going to remember this the next time a couple of newcomers are in our meeting and suggest we use that pamphlet .. what a great idea!
It's important to remember those intense feelings in the very beginning of recovery and it can make a difference between a new person coming back or not.
Hugs P :)

I am glad your group is so new comer focused! I have heard lots of the other stories and am glad to hear yours! Great reminder to think about when I fist crawled in the Al-anon doors. Sending you love and support!

We had a newcomer to our meeting. We have a member who has moved from another state. She was surprised that we didn't go around and share what brought us to Al-Anon.
We've done this in the past but it's not a set thing we do. In talking this might be something we implement. It can be so intimidating to be new to the rooms.
She shared her story for our newcomer and it was so powerful!!!
