Pink - Walk Away

On my way to my first Alanon meeting (which ended up a complete fail, there was no one there!!)  I thrashed this song over and over again.

It's how I feel.

Aloha Bargee...I've had that happen a time or two before and also have been to meetings where there was just another person and myself and then 40 other persons and myself.  It happens from time to time.  This Wednesday I missed my home group because of hearing difficulties and there were 6 others in the room too.   Keep at it cause this works when you work it.   ((((hugs)))) smile

Hi ,

sorry to hear there was no one at the meeting.

My recovery is very important to me no matter what gets in the way or how many times I fall down I pick myself up and carry on.  I hope there is other meetings available for you.  You are worth it hope you find a loving , healthy al anon meeting.

regards

Keep going back, I did! and I'm still going back!  I can't figure out with all the alcoholic and drug addicts in the world why people arn't running to these meetings.  I've been to meetings where there was only 1 or 2 people.

I hate this happened to you, something like this happened to my sis. she finally came to a meeting with me and there were only two older members sharing what she thought was some very boring stuff,  she hasn't been back since, hopfully she will come back as she is in a lot of pain, I've allowed her to vent and keep reminding her of ala-non.  I point out our powerlessness and our options of insanity, recovery or death when trying to deal with behaviors of addicted love ones alone.

I don't allow her to go on and on any more because I feel myself being drawn into my own stuff and I avoid going there.

Remember this disease is progressive, thinking of you and sending you positive thoughts.

I agree if at first you don't succeed keep going back. You know .. LOL .. one time I showed up at a meeting that wasn't even scheduled (oopppsss). Something I really liked about going to smaller meetings and I still do. I love the big meetings (which one open AA has over 30 people in it!! That's huge for our little town.), it's the smaller open AA where people will just seriously open up. I love being 1 of 2 women at those meetings to because the men (there will be about 5 - 8 men) will forget we are there and just really open up in a whole new direction. Those are the meetings I am probably the most quiet at because I like to fade into the background and just watch and listen.

Ditto with the alanon meetings. Big meetings are a lot of fun .. I have to say it's those meetings where it's 2 people that I feel like I get a LOT out of them. Sometimes after the meeting we have an "after meeting" those are smaller too, it's an opportunity to ask all of the questions that don't or won't come up in regular meetings. I love to be able to sit and talk like that it's amazing. You get a long timer and I'm telling you they will let you pick them over good with ESH and so on. I've learned sooo much about the history of AA in our town how alanon got started here it was just the neatest thing to hear that in the 70's there were only 2 meetings and they were held on the same day! It was funny to listen to the politics of it all and how different meetings got started.

As long as I keep an open mind, .. lol .. make sure I'm at the right meeting (again for me this is important .. lol), I get to learn and really get a great idea about what is in terms of my own program.

Keep coming back and more importantly since my HP has a wicked sense of humor .. I think He likes to figure out how bad to I really want something .. am I really willing to work for it. The rewards of answering that call are priceless.

Hugs P :)

I live in a small town and I don't know if they have closed the meeting down, or if there was no meeting at all that particular night.
The only way I found out about it was a tiny ad in the local paper.
Will look again and see if the details have changed.
I think there may be a meeting in a town about 15 mins away, but I don't know how to find out about that one.

Call the local alanon hotline in your area .. they will have a listing of all meetings including the one's in surrounding areas or they can put you in touch with the meetings in other areas.

Hugs p :)
