New to Al-Anon

For years people have suggested to me to go to Al-Anon meetings and I finally did because a co worker suggested it as well. Plus its not far from where I live. But I told her that I am still trying to figure it out. She suggested i go to at least  6 meetings . I will try it, but what exactly am I suppose to get out of it? I know I need to work on the self loathing? If that is how you spell it. I want to be a happy person so others will be happy to be around me. I am an alcoholic myself and going to the AA meetings. Hmmm, I guess some feedback would be nice.

thanks

Hi there, we have a lot of double winners here at MIP and in my local Al-anon meetings. Double winner meaning they are alcoholics and have been affected by someone else's drinking as well. I am not an A, but I just wanted to welcome you and say I think if you attend 6 Al-anon meetings you will see what the hype is all about. I have dived into my own recovery program and feel better about everything in my life! Sending you love and support on your journey!

alot of people wonder that. I wondered that. What I discovered is that the possibilities of what I can get from al-anon are endless. gratitude, compassion, spirit, unconditional love, happiness, faith, friends, meaningful conversations and relationships. You are in AA so Im sure you understand some of this but sometimes al-anon works... it works for me. I love it. I hope you try it out and see.

Welcome to Miracle in Progress

I decided to attend alanon meetings and commit to the program because I was in terrible pain from living with the disease of alcoholism.

The negative tools I used: Denial of a problem, Pretend it was OK, Isolation, care taking, etc all had failed me and I was filled with anger, resentment, self pity and fear. I needed new tools to live my life by Alanon had the answers.

Working the steps, attending meetings, learning to be honest , ask for my needs, focus on myself, live one day at a time and trust a Higher Power- all were the new tools i found that changed my attitude and life

if you feel you can use what we have found--- courage, serenity and wisdom than urge you to join us.

Thank you all for your response. Sure makes more sense now. I plan on continuing to go to the meetings.
