Hi there, my name is Nicole. I am a Senior at Boise State University. I recently ended a long term relationship with someone who abused alcohol regularly. Over the course of two years I changed and became a weak person that eventually, no one would recognize. I was depressed with no solution ahead of me. My relationship was physically and mentally abusive. Over the last 6 months Al-anon has given me the strength to move forward with my life in an amazing/positive direction. I sought help and found al-anon to be the best thing that has ever happened to me. I still struggle daily but find myself in a more productive place. In one of the final steps in the strength/recovery process I have taken it upon myself to finish up my college career writing a mandatory research paper on this important topic. I have created a survey as proof for a 30 page research assignment for my final year of college. Throughout this assignment I have learned so much about this consuming issue (alcoholism). Are you able to maybe forward this on to members in live meetings and/or over email? This survey is completely anonymous. It is a quick 3 to 5 minute survey. My gratitude cannot be expressed enough, your help is assisting my strength in completing this huge step to recovery.
Hi Nicole, and welcome to MIP! I participated in your survey. Good luck with your research paper and your college career. But please don't look to this forum only as research material. You have been involved with an alcoholic and effected by that relationship. Keep coming back, reading and posting. Please keep us updated on your journey.
Aloha Nicole...my college experience also included and then ended within the issue of alcoholism and my term paper was on the affects of the disease and chemical widely. The traditions, which you no doubt already have a relationship with suggest, on a whole a stance of non-affiliation. MIP is not an approved Al-Anon site or group and the MIP membership are free as individuals to make their own choices regarding participation. I doubt if any group will participate from within the traditions.
You are not the first person in education with this request for participation on both sides of MIP. Good luck with your goals.
