You Know Who You Are

I just wanted to say one more thing before I peel my eyelids off the computer screen. Thank you to all my friends, especially the ones I didn't know I had until just now. I was feeling a little...I don't know...like I didn't belong. And someone noticed that I was feeling that way and we chit-chatted for a bit and now I don't feel that apartness anymore. So, I just wanted to express my gratitude to you and you know who you are and I also wanted to say to the new people to just keep coming here because there's a lot of good kind loving patient and tolerant souls in this place and if you hang around long enough you'll meet them.

I have never felt like I fit in anywhere in my life, until I found this message board and Alanon. I am no longer alone in my struggles or my victories and have found people here that totally 'get it'! It has brought a new level of peace into my sometimes unpeaceful existence. Good post, thanks Wolfie :)

Hi Wolfie -

I appreciate the perspective you bring to the message board as a dual member. I think too many Al-Anons do their best to avoid AA. While I understand a lot of them have had horribly negative experiences with alcoholics, I've found it's an important part of my recovery to recognize that A's aren't the "enemy" and that their viewpoints should not be side-lined. Really, to the contrary, I'm in Al-Anon not because I dislike A's. I'm in here because I care (TOO much, at times!!!) about the A's in my life.

Also, I want to put out a gentle reminder that this message board is not an official Al-Anon Family Group meeting recognized by the WSO. (For a list of those, one can visit: http://al-anon.alateen.org/electronic-meetings). That being said, this message board does not adhere to the three legacies as would normally be seen in an official AFG meeting. So, trying to enforce those legacies on this board is just not realistic (ie: discouraging cross-talk, requesting members of AA abstain from revealing their dual membership status, etc.) This is also why I'd encourage anyone attending this message board as their sole Al-Anon connection to try to make an effort to get to some actual meetings, and if you can't get to face-to-face meetings, perhaps take a look at the WSO-recognized electronic meetings previously mentioned.

MIP has been around for quite a while, and I do say that attests to the health of its core membership. It has helped many, many people for certain. But it should still not be confused with an official AFG meeting.

Wolfie,

I haven't read your earlier post, and am so glad you got all that straightened out.

Funny--I seldom post, and I had the biggest urge to let you know yesterday how much I appreciate your being on here. You have a lot of wisdom to share, and are also very entertaining, IMNSHO.

Hugs,
Temple

Wolfie, I have been part of MIP for over ten years. I can tell you MANY people have felt as you did,not feeling they were part of everything here.

It is never intentional for us to make anyone feel like that. I know for me I get so comfortable and just enjoy seeing peoples nics on here but forget to tell them that.

You have always impressed me with your wit, comments and truths. Please know you are very much appreciated.

love,debilyn
