St. Patrick's Day was fun

I'm the one that was cooking corned beef, cabbage and potatoes for 10 Vets in Rehab yesterday.  My friend helped me with a lot of the finishing touches, I'd done the prep work at home (two day process, my mom's Irish recipe).

I showed up with my green shirt, red hair, freckles and made over 20 pounds of corned beef!  Those guys loved it and were so sweet, kept asking if they could help, thanked me a dozen times each.  It was a great day.

I sat in on the second family meeting - Saturdays they have a therapist run a family meeting.  It is always so humbling to hear both sides of how this disease affects everyone.

And then the guys invited me to an AA meeting so I went! The speaker was very inspiring.  I know I'll never "get" alcoholism the way someone with the disease does.

On a side note, I'm going be leasing a horse for me and my three boys.  Horses are my drug of choice   I grew up with one and they feed my soul.  I just need to be near them and everything in me heals.  I've been pushing myself for 3 years, getting a degree, got into a career and as of tomorrow I got my second promotion that means for the first time in my life I can stop living paycheck to paycheck. (This was out of necessity, my ex will never be able to take care of himself, let alone 3 boys, I'm 90% of their financial support)

And my work allows for family balance. I'm loving life.  And trusting myself.  This was a lot of hard work.  For the first time I'm able to take care of me first and have so much left over for my family.

Can't wait to meet with the faclity that has the horses to lease.  It is the first step in a dream I have had since before I married my abusive ex in 1992.  That dream was to have horses in my life again - and now it's happening.  Never too old!

(((ASM)) I remember from a previous post that you were feeling a little overwhelmed by making this commitment. I'm so glad your day went well! Sounds like it was good for the Vets and good for you. Way to go! Congratulations on your promotion, and on your decision to lease a horse. I'm sure it will bring much joy to you and your boys. Keep us posted!

PS -I've been wanting to get a horse ever since we moved here where we actually have room for one. I may be PMing you for some tips on horses!

I'm happy to help but I've been away from horses for 25 years, I suspect some things have changed!
