An Insight from the Primate World

I certainly mean no disrespect to my ex or any other A....I just use this image as a tool..so when he is slinging stuff...it helps me QTIP...and I can realize that this is not truth he speaks, but a strategy on his part to take the focus off him...smile

A very good friend of mine asked me if I knew about the phenomenon of monkeys throwing poop. I told her yes (thinking -- what in the world is she talking about?)

She then asked me if I knew WHY monkeys threw poop -- particularly in zoos, primates throw poop to get people to stop looking at them.

This is a great metaphor to remember when the qualifier in your life starts "throwing poop" -- by blaming, or name calling, or engaging in any other behavior that serves to distract anyone from looking at them.

This image has been really helpful to me when my ex A tries to engage me by "throwing poop" my way...I just think to myself -- oh yah...he's trying to distract me (and himself) by throwing poop. It helps me detach.

Thought I'd share.

This is great! Next time I am in one of those situations all I will be able to do is smile.

Oh my goodness, this is the best thing I've read in awhile. I LOVE this! Now when I'm tempted to be upset at one of my kids or my ex who's blaming me for something (usually something I wasn't even involved in), instead of getting that mild irritation of "here we go again" I will probably break out into laughter with this image in my head of them throwing poop.

That ought to end the entire thing instantly!!! Next time my ex blames me for the kids not listening to him I'm going to be on the floor laughing hysterically....

(((rehprof)))...great metaphor!!  Metaphors are my best teachers cause I don't learn well just by listening to words.  When I was young and had trouble getting the message from my mom and others they use to ask me..."do I have to draw you a picture?"   Eventual proper response...YES!!

Poop throwing...I get it!!  Mahalo  smile

lol, I've heard this in the rooms actually. The al-anon side of it, is not picking up the poop and throwing it back because that's what we do... they act and we react.

Thanks so much for the reminder today, to not let myself get emotionally hooked, to stay detached... I don't want dirty hands, haha!

Makes me think of the saying "hurt people hurt people". An interesting new perspective, for sure!
