Missed my meeting, came home to a drunk

UGH!  I had to miss my meeting tonight because my mom is in town and I had to take her to another city for an accordion meeting(she performs in an accordion orchestra).  Anyway, I came home, pulled in the garage, and there is a full empty bottle of wine on the front seat and a half drunk cup of wine in the cupholder.  He also had 2 empty bottles of beer waiting to be thrown out and a half drunk cup of beer in the house.

Here's where I need to watch what I say: I'm livid that he drove and drank at the same time, even if he wasn't over the legal limit there would still be consequences if he were caught.  And, when I got out of the shower, he was gone.  My son said he just left and didn't say a word.  I called him and he said he was dropping something off at the donation center.  Ummm, that's fine but you've been drinking and shouldn't be driving.  I said nothing, though, since I won't argue with a drunk and I am now reclining on the sofa wondering what he's going to come through the door with?  I'm assuming he finished his big cup o' wine and probably will be buying more.

Anyway, I just needed to vent!

((HUGS)) Bonnie...sounds like you're doing everything you can.  You're taking some time to take care of yourself and collect your thoughts and feelings.  I totally share your frustration about impaired driving.  Despite having three DUIs, and spending 6 days in jail, my AH is once again driving under the influence.  I've only ever said anything about it when he suggests we all go for a ride when he's been drinking.  No way will I get in a car with him, or allow him to drive the kids anywhere.

Wishing you a serene evening!

Thank you. What bothers me is that there are other people on the road and anything can impair even good drivers on the road, let alone someone who's been drinking. My grandparents were killed as pedestrians by a young driver who says she was just fiddling with her radio and took her eye off the road. I have a hard time believing that she couldn't see 2 very old people slowly crossing the road from the other side, but that's just my opinion. The police believe she was impaired but they never got a chance to do a breathalyzer on her because she was rushed to the hospital after being in shock. Anyway, I just have to bite my tongue, bite my tongue, be nice, be nice, go to bed early, LOL!!!! Keep working the program and find a Friday night meeting!

I understand your anxiety about drunk driving, and I'm not sure I could be serene about it even after years of alanon. One time long ago I took the car keys and threw them into the bushes at night to keep son from driving drunk with my car. Of course, this did not cure him, but it relieved me for a while.

Prayers for you and yours, and a note about hearing that addiction is a brain disorder. Well, take it or leave it, we do call it a "disease".

Well, he at least texted me to tell me he's at our country club. I figure he met some friends there and is drinking it up with them.

Well, he just texted me to tell me that "I'm not going to be happy with him". I don't know what that means, though. I typed back a few question marks looking for more info but still haven't heard back from him. UGH! Can't wait to hear what's happened now.

You did the right thing turning to this board.

A very serene al-anon member once told me. "If your husband is ever slipping in his program that is when you pull your literature near and dig deep in your own program." I like that and I also think would be approp to call an al-anon friend or sponsor too.
