Dog Delemia.....

ugh. I am shaking my head right with you.

Serenity prayer reminds me that I either can do something about my situation, or I can't. Is there anything else you might be able to do for the well-being of the dog? (I am an animal advocate and I can tell you are too.)

What would you do if it were someone OTHER THAN your son not taking care of the dog? Would you let it go? I ratted on a neighbor a long time ago for abusing his dog, unfortunately the city didn't have the resources to do anything about it. That was soo frustrating. But I tried.

In recovery, my sponsor taught me to be "responsible" and her translation is to " be able to respond" ....to life.

I don't know if any of this helps, my friend. I am sad right with you, but I'll be sending prayers, love and light to all involved, for the best possible outcome.

I took my addicted son's dog when he was no longer caring for her (she is a lab/mut mix) she wasn't properly fed or given water because of his irresponsibility and she was left without proper care while he was gone with his drug buddies.

The dog was happy with me, we loved her and took good care of her, but last night he came in the middle of the night and took the dog back to his place and called me to tell me that he had taken her back.

I am sooooo upset, just needed to vent.

Love to you all.

I am so sorry for you. It must be difficult. I'm sure the pain is not only that the dog is no longer there but how the dog was taken - quite a shock to the system.

Hugs to you. Hang in there.

The ex A tried to do that stuff to me.

He left the beagle tied to a tree for 3 days with no food or water.

Every now and again he calls to say he wants to see her.  I don't even answer.

He also let my black lab be beaten with a stick by one of his drug pals.

I can completely empathize.

Maresie.

Is he allowed to come into your home unannounced?

When it comes to kids and animals, my experience is I take care of it.

I don't know your son. If he can be reasoned with, I would go over and let him know you are very attached to this dog and want it back.

Remind him how unsafe it is there for the dog maybe?

All I know is it must really upset you!

I have had to do some illegal things to protect animals and am not sorry.  They cannot  speak for themselves.

hugs!! debilyn

Poor little pup. I have been in this same situation. Each time, the dog would end up back with me for one reason or another because I think deep down he knew he couldn't care for her. But during the times he took her I decided I had to let go of control and stop worrying. It was technically his dog anyway, and God had a plan, even for the dog. I "knew" I was a better caregiver for the dog and therefore thought he should not have the dog. But the truth is that was just my control kicking in again. I have this idea in my head that if everything is in my hands than everything will be okay. So as much of a dog lover as I am I had to let it go.....and what do you know, she needed a trip to the vet and he couldn't pay so she is back with me.

On the other hand- as an animal lover- if the dog is in real danger of neglect or harm then it might be time to take another route.

Thank you all for your kind words and shared experiences.

I will hope that he would let me have the dog back when he comes down from his "I just want to spite you" mood that he has been in since New Year.

Debilyn, he didn't come into the house, I wouldn't let him have free range to do that, the dog has a bed under my carport and he came in the middle of the night and took the dog.

When I left for work this morning there was her food and water bowl, it made me so sad I wanted to cry.
