hehee, that's a good expression for it too. I'm familiar with "getting on the train" and "getting on the highway" ...both picking up speed if I don't do something about it.
I usually phone my sponsor or a fellowship friend. That is the quickest fix for me.
I have to remember, I have a thinking problem. To stop picking up speed and spiraling, I gotta change my thoughts. I also have the option to start working the steps on the issue. If I can do something about my situation, I get up and do it. If I can't - I have the choice to surrender to my powerlessness and work the steps from there.
Depending on whats going on, meditation works well for me too, it's my best way to detach.
All is well. Its just my thinking that tells me otherwise.

The prayer isn't for Higher Power to change our lives, but rather to change us.
This is my favorite expression when I get so angry or upset that I have a hard time coming out of it... it just keeps building and building. Sometimes venting helps. Sometimes chanting the serenity prayer. Any other ESH on this would be appreciated. I'm wound pretty tight right now.
Mine is the almighty "feelings aren't facts" I go to that one a lot right now. "this to shall pass" .. if I am happy, sad, angry, glad whatever it's going to change and that's ok.
Hugs, P :)

I also do a mental gratitude list. Sometimes I have to do it alphabetically to keep my mind on track. A- I love apples. B- bananas are good too. C- is for cookies or candy. etc. I also play rock music real loud so it vibrates through my body. The rockin rhythms soothe my soul. And I start to move to the music. Can't think about anything else then.
When I start what iffing things, I like to say to my kids what if the moon fell out of sky and poked me in the eye. It gets us laughing. Sending you love and support!

" Pain is inevitable, suffering is optional."
"Serenity is when your body and mind are in the same place."
I love that phrase. When I'm "wrapped around the axle", I want a mechanic! Or at least, bolt cutters.
For me, when I've felt really low, I've played motown tunes really loudly while making pie. This two pronged attack has never failed.
If I'm lower energy, I've also played with my dog, or when I haven't had a dog, gone for a walk and watched dogs playing. If I'm too angry then I'll harness that into some exercise, and in one infamous incident I cleaned up the entire garage in 2 hours. [ Sore the next day! ]
Weeding clears my mind too. Maybe because I'm " ripping out the bad ", but whatever the reason, it's a peaceful task.
