new to it all

This is my first time on here. My partner just got out of detox for benzos. She has been going to meetings every night. I'm so very proud of her, and want to help more than anything. She goes to an out patient program so I'm not allowed to go. I have looked in my area for nar-anon meetings but I can't find any. I got her into the detox hospital because she came to me and said she was addicted and wanted to get off the pills and start living again. She has become close to some of the people she met in detox, I'm really starting to feel left out of her recovery. I need help. What do I do?

It doesn't matter that your partner was addicted to benzos...alanon meetings and alanon literature will help you! If you are from a larger area..you may want to try a few different meetings...and they say to try 6 before you pass judgmenrt.

Many of our As are not addicted only to alcohol...many have multiple addictions...so chances are good you won't need to find a narcotics anon specific meeting.

I can't find nar-anon in my area either. My qualifier is my husband. He is an alcoholic but also an addict. You found the right place. Do not feel left out because you will fit right in in Al-Anon. I suggest you find face to face Al-Anon meetings in your area to attend. They have really helped me immensely. Welcome and keep coming back.

Aloha apesgirl...when I was ready my HP lead me to the white pages of my local telephone book.  I went there to find the numbers for "Help in Emotional Trouble"  they were all busy with someone else.  I called next the "Suicide Prevention Center" and they were all at lunch...and then miraculously I found my finger on Al-Anon and the rest is history.  I felt the same way you are feeling when my alcoholic/addict wife was starting AA.  I was mad, lonely, jealous, left out and unconvinced that she was alcoholic (what ever that mean't) so when asked I told her I didn't think she was one of those and without thanking me she went on another long run...everything we had went away and almost including my life.

You might be new to it all and you're not alone.  At one time or another we were all new to it also.  Come back and check in regularly and try the suggestions that are given you.  If they worked for us they will help change your life also.

((((hugs)))) smile

Welcome! I am glad you are here and that you tried to find a meeting. Al Anon meetings are for anyone has experienced pain, confusion, and frustration caused by addiction, regardless of the specific type of addiction. You are not alone. Your feelings are normal, and many here (not me, yet) who have partners in recovery have described exactly what you are feeling. Your instinct to begin your own recovery by looking for a meeting was right on! There is a community, here and at meetings, that is ready to embrace and support YOU. Keep coming back!!
