Authority Figures

Starting my intern next week and have one class to take on the side to accompany it. I'm having a hard time going back to finish college; I took a year off that was Much needed. Now, however, I am looking at things and recognising I have to work for someone. I am still dealing with the area of authority figures .. Suddenly I have panic at times .. low grade but panic just the same. I'm not off to a good start; I missed a class this week because I was so focused on the other. The first one ugh .. i really wanted to be there to get a refresher for the course.

So, the obssession wheel begins with all I will need to do these next 4 months and whether it will work out with my daughter in school (young daughter) if I will be able to pull it off .. I didn't have any real planning., i just threw it out there ..

anyway .. just needed some hope hp will see me through .. thanks

A sponsor really helps here, she might have you write out a Fear Inventory; writing out a list of everything you fear. First time I did this, it took up 3 pages of my notebook.

Then the Big Book suggests you ask yourself why you have the fear,

"Wasn't it because self-reliance failed us?"

"Perhaps there is a better way, we think so. For we are now on a different basis; the basis of TRUSTING and RELYING UPON GOD. We trust infinite God rather than our finite selves... (and here is perhaps my all-time favorite line in the Big Book....)

"Just to the extent that we do as we think He would have us, and humbly rely on Him, does He enable us to match calamity with serenity."

"We ask Him to remove our fear and direct our attention to what He would have us be. At once, we commence to outgrow fear."

I hope this helps, it's my favorite remedy for fear and panic. Just write it out and ask yourself if you're trusting Higher power.

Hi Metwo2

I am glad that you took the risk and returned to school.smile You had the courage to follow your heart and remember HP did not take you this far to drop you now.

Just trust HP, keep doing the next right thing and do not project.

One Moment at a time you will achieve this success.

Keep coming here and checking in

I like Glad's input and then I'm one of her biggest fans...blush...

Another thing...from my journey...I was taught to take my day in little bites...making timelines with to dos or must dos and then crossing them off when I was done with them.  I was taught to get out of projecting into the future...doom and gloom or any fearful outcome...just do the work and if I wanted feedback...ask someone else other than my head.  Scarey and really good recovery work.  I had authority figure problems then and at times still do I guess however if you get the "fear" stuff out of the picture authority figures are also just human beings with the responsibility to lead and help...proper perspectives...help me alot.

Congradulations on nearing the finish line...sounds like a one step at a time until you cross it.   Yay!!   ((((hugs)))) smile

I went back to college in my forties. I was usually older than the profs.

Many times called my Mother and cried. She always encouraged me.

Sometimes I told me, just get your body there. Just get out the door.

As soon as I got there it was very ok.

I have to admit to you I suck at authority figures. I don't even relate to what that is. I consider us all to be co workers. Seems like the socalled authority figures make more money as the ones doing the hard work don't make enough.

Let me tell you, the way I look at it is respect all the way around. Like I get myself there because the professor got there. I respect that. I respect some people but the word authority really makes me cringe.

In fact my kids are the exact same way now that I think about it. They do not take any crap from anyone, but they do respect those who respect them.

You are not below them, you do not know less than them. They may know more about one thing and you know more about another. They are no better than you. they are just humans.

To be honest the only authority figure I will follow to the T is the creator my HP.I am humbled by him only.

hugs, hope this helps a little. Hey don't be hard on you! Just continue on!

love,debilyn
