How to like ourselves more....

Recovery is civil war, but it is a war that can be won.
--Sister Imelda

How often do we hear people say, "Sure, I know it's the right thing to do - but it's easier said than done!''

But "it," whatever "it" is for each of us, is actually easier done than not done.  As hard as it is to turn our will and our behavior toward recovery, failing to recover is much harder.  Ultimately, any price we pay for recovery is far less than the cost of giving up everything we've gained.

Some of us have a very difficult time making phone calls. Others are scared to death of speaking at meetings, talking to strangers, or admitting that we have feelings. But the alternative has simply been too painful. Whatever we have to do is worth it. The payoff is immense.

How many of us, when we did attend that meeting that frightened us felt an enormous surge of self-confidence and happiness? How often, when we have stood our ground and found it did not kill us, have we felt that we could lick the world?

The payoff is that we learn to like ourselves more, and that is as good as it gets.

Believe it or not, this reminds me of something my AH says to our son: Inch by inch, it's a cinch. Yard by yard, it's too hard. Take it one step at a time. Thank you for sharing this today!

love this. thanks, glad lee

ilovedogs.... This is so so so so weird that you just said that.. My Mom had this dish to hold pins made out of glass and printed on it it said "life is hard; yard by yard, inch by inch, its a cinch" I have recited those words in my head millions of times and its always reminded me of my mom because she does not live her life inch by inch.. and she is always worrying about the past and future.. im not sure what this means but I dont believe in coincidences. I have never heard anyone else ever use that saying, just me.. because of that little glass dish. Dont know the meaning of this but you made my day. Thanks.

ilove dogs and michelle814 - I also like the inch by inch saying. I use something similar (same spirit) as an e-mail signature at my work. It always reminds me that persistence is better than power. Here it is: "Many things which cannot be overcome when they are together, yield themselves up when taken little by little." Plutarch
