...is that my children might start learning how to use the tools, too.
I don't preach 12-Steps at home because I'm not qualified to preach anything. I can only share my own ESH. But, without knowing it, I have started living the program with progress not perfection.
Today, in a moment of dismay over my own clutter and disorganization, I asked my pre-teen daughter if she would like to clean out one of my desk drawers for me. Her response, said with a maturity beyond her years: "Mom, your desk is your responsibility. It is not my responsibility to clean up your desk, just like it is not your responsibility to clean up my desk."
OK, time to clean up my side of the street (desk drawer).
Here's another thing to freely sprinkle around children - the idea of what we are powerless over - spilled milk, oh well, can't put it back in the glass now can we? But what CAN we do? We can teach to be more careful next time. (Johnny, are you being more careful around your milk this time??) I think it helps kids to learn early not to over-stress those things we cannot control and to look for what we can do about something to help prevent a repeat.
