Al Anon Meetings

I have a couple of questions, how do I find Al Anon meetings? Also, how often is a person suppose to attend these meetings?

You can go to the AlAnon national website....alanon.com.... and do a state wide search if you are in the USA. You also can get information about Canada and the rest of the world at this site. But a local site is the best one. Maybe you can google AlAnon and your city name and see what comes up.

How often? As often as you want to. As often as you need it. I started out during a summer and since I teach, I had every day at noon that I could go to a meeting for that summer. I still have 3 meetings every week that I try to get to, but I don't kick myself if I can't.

Another thing you can do to find one is go to the white pages of your local telephone book and look for Al-Anon.  That is  how I found them for me.

((((hugs)))) smile

It's really up to you how often up want to go. Some people are able to go daily. I live in a small town and there are only a few available in our area. I go 2x a week.

Hugs p :)

Welcome to Alanon! smile

For meeting information in Canada, the US, and Puerto Rico you can call 1-888-4AL-ANON or 1-888-425-2666 Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 6:00pm ET. More information for the newcomer is at http://www.al-anon.alateen.org/newcomer.html It is suggested that newcomers try at least 6 different meetings before deciding if Al-Anon is for them.

Also, we have online Meetings in our Alanon Chat/Meeting room but it is suggested that we go to 'real live Alanon Meetings' so we can have physical contact, support and telephone numbers of other members, online meetings should not take place of Face to Face Meetings.

Welcome! I have read your posts, and I am so glad to hear you are interested in going to a face to face meeting. With time, going to meetings has helped me so much with the fear, anger and confusion of being married to an alcoholic and has really changed my outlook on life. I found Al Anon a little over a year ago, and I am extremely grateful. It is suggested that you try 6 different meetings before you decide if Al Anon is right for you. I find each meeting has its own feel and flavor, and it took me a litttle time for things to start making sense to me. I am sending you a tremendous amount of support as you get through this time. I am so glad you are here. Keep coming back!

How often. Well, a person is considered an active member of Al-Anon if they go to at least one meeting a week. But, I would consider that to be the bare minimum. I go to at least two meetings a week(more when I can) and would recommend more to a newcomer. I suggest you get to as many meetings as you can. A new AA member is suggested to go to 90 meetings in their first 90 days. I don't think that is unreasonable for a new Al-Anon member either, but it is often impractical for the one who is holding everything together.

So, do what you can. Get to as many meetings as you can and as was also suggested, try several different meetings if you can, just to get a better taste of what kind of meetings are available and which ones you like.

Welcome. Keep coming back. It really does work to change your life, if you work it.
