Discovering Choices

Has anyone had any experience with the book?  I'm debating about getting it and I've flipped through it and like what it has to say.  I"m just not sure if it's a current book anyone is using or what they got out of it.  I find that many of the books say similar things, the books are used in different ways.

I just read through Delima of An Alcoholic Marriage and all I can say is WOW .. I wish I had read it sooner.  I really liked what it had to say about communication.

Thanks, P :)

Discovering Choices is one of my favorites. In fact, I like it so much that I suggested we use it in our Alanon group next year as a guide for topics each week, and our group voted and agreed. I liked Dilemma of an Alcoholic Marriage, but found a lot of it to be dated. Guess that's because it was written in 1977. Some of the chapters were helpful though.

Good deal I think I'm going to go ahead then and move forward and get it. We are going to use How Alanon Works and I think Paths to Recovery this next year in our step work.

Some was a little dated however there was much that still applies in the world of marriage, break downs are break downs that lead to resentments on both sides. I liked what the paragraphs at the end of the steps towards the end of the book and I liked how it addressed communicating with the active addict of focusing on the "what's" it's so easy to get caught up in the why's, how's and the should's. I've heard that term around here on the boards and didn't get the meaning until reading about it. Now I get it!!

thanks for the feedback!!

Hugs P :)

Although I haven't made the suggestion to my Home Group I do see the book as Green Eyes does.  It does speak to me about changing and alternatives.

I think you will find the book to be a good investment. I would bet amazon has used copies.

Thanks everyone :)

I'm always recommending amazon.com and I should use it more than I do. I happened to grab it out of the cupboard at Tuesday nights meeting. I have just been flipping through it and I'm itching to mark in it .. lol.

Hugs P :)
