Thankfullness every day

Every day I write a gratitude list. My sponsor suggested this quite a while ago which of course filled me with resentment!

So everyday is an opportunity to give thanks.  A lot has shifted for me  since  then.  Suggestions can sometimes be pretty hard to implement but I'm very glad I finally got to do this one.

Maresie.

"My sponsor suggested this quite a while ago which of course filled me with resentment!"

LOL I totally understood this feeling. Before I went to my first meeting I resented being told, get to a meeting.

Everyday I look for things that I am truly thankful for. For me it helps me keep everything in perspective.

Hi maresie

I too resented the idea of a gratitude list when I first arrived

My response was "I have nothing to be grateful for" and in my sick, negative mind that was true. no My sponser suggested putting my health, and job and that I could walk and talk on the list to start and then to add one new item each day.  It worked!!!

Before long my list was huge and best of all I could actually FEEL GRATEFUL.

I still review my gratitude  and asset list each day  and am so grateful for this porgram.  It  is amazing

Thank you for sharing your great growth

LOL, This share has me laughing for sure. I resented everything at first, I was comfortably miserable in my pity pot and no matter how many people tried to help, they couldn't until I felt like dragging myself out and into Al-anon meetings. I am so grateful fo this MIP family group and for so much this season! Thanks for the post. I am sending you love and support on your journey!

Gratitude Lists!!  awesome healing tool for me too.  The consequences of not doing it and staying in the "poor me's the world is out to get me" is sickening.  I just won't do that anymore alcoholic or not.  Thanks for the thread ... I believe I will put this on my gratitude list.   Yay!! (((hugs))) smile

My sponsor had me write one daily too.  At first I was amazed at my first go I had 57 things to be grateful for.  I do them daily write them down because I think there is healing in the writing.  When I can physically see everything I am grateful for on paper, my consciousness shifts towards looking for things in my day that work and are blessings.    That is the gift of doing the gratitude homework.  What a simple idea, profound effects.

Thanks M.,

T

That cracked me up maresie! It is true that the gratitude list works. Sometimes I will catch myself in a funk while driving around town and I will just start listing off a gratitude list out loud. It AlWAYS helps.

What works for me is to share a short gratitude list each day with a friend.  Its amazing how my view of things change.

nothing is for ever.

I can break things up in small pieces.

I can see progress because the list is written.

I have to look for things to be grateful for.

I found it very very hard to practice this tool. Breaking it down into a manageable goal is so so key.

Maresie.
