negativity

Hi All,

just been to a really good meeting on negativity.  I have had not such a good day today spoke to my ex abf who is in early sobriety and the grief was hard.  Any how I rang a couple of members a little bit more positive, I read a little bit more positive, then I went to the eeting and it was on negativity.  Today started bad I worked my programme and it got better and better.  I went from sad to happy thanks to al anon.  the situation has not changed just my attitude because took my al anon medicine .

what makes you think more positively.

5 a day gratitude lists .. lol. It's the only thing that kind of mentally puts me in my place when I want to go down the road of negativity. It's not always easy to find the positive stuff however it's always there. As well as get myself to a meeting.

Hugs P :)

I struggle with that one too. I do slip a lot and personally am not in a great place emotionally right now. But I try to remember that even if I'm not happy with every situation, I have a lot to be grateful for. When I'm upset about my AH, I find it healing to read self help and Alanon related literature. I sometimes go straight to Getting Them Sober and feel immediate relief when I go back to some of the pages I bookmark.

I also feel more positive when I allow myself to just relax, let go and give myself a time out from worrying and/or obsessing.
For instance, tonight I am just going to hang out with my son and watch t.v. and put AH at the very back of my mind. Focusing on my child keeps me grounded on what's most important, and reminds me of what I have to be very grateful for.

I also feel better when I remember that most things I really worried about didn't happen, and that even when I felt very low, things eventually got better. I've seen too many things that I've worried about work themselves out with time and patience. Just because I don't know the solution to all my problems doesn't mean they won't present themself, eventually.

When you go to a meeting and hear how much worse others have it - For me I always leave a meeting thinking my problems are truly gold plated compared to many others.

Music.... and sit-coms.... and funny movies.... and gratitude for little things (and big things). And like nyc018 says, I've seen too many things that I've worried about that doesn't even happen, or doesn't happen the way I thought it would and then it works itself out. Let go and let God. Trust.

I loved that line, I took my alanon medicine.

On our Just for Today card there is a quote from Abraham Lincoln "you are as happy as you make your mind out to be."  When I look for happiness and joy, I usually find it.  Should I focus on the bad things, they grow.  That is the grace of having a few phone numbers of the member in Alanon.  When I get into that stinkin thinkin, I ring them up and ask for guidance, and support.  It is my lifeline.

Good for you for restarting your day.  We can do so at anytime.

xoxo,

T
