Our small rural city has what is called a "citywide yard sale" each year. It's this Saturday. I've lived here for over 20 years and have never particpated. But this year we decided to join in the "fun."
Truly I'd rather take a beating than have this thing. But he wants to unload some of his things in our attic and I'm for that! He is somewhat of a hoarder. But perhaps he is loosening up with age.
For a while today, I kept feeling this sense of panic and dread. I'm not looking forward to people rummaging through my belongings - I usually drop things off at a nearby charity throughout the years. But I have quite a bit of stuff since we cleaned the attic. Plus, I want to get rid of a lot of Christmas decor that I just don't use any longer, but it sure takes up space.
In a recent post I suggested to someone to "reframe" the way that she was perceiving her situation. So as I began to feel this heaviness engulf me, I remembered my suggestion and applied it.
Instead of thinking about people throwing stuff around in my driveway and being rude, I envisoned people smiling and happy 'cuz they are getting some darn good bargains. I'm happy to pass this "stuff" along if it makes others happy to have it.
take good care everyone!

Well Gail... as a self confessed LOVER of Garage Sales, Flea Markets, and the like - I cannot relate at all.... I would be thrilled to go to the citywide event!! :)
How's that for a fresh perspective, lol

Some people in our area do this. They do manage to unload stuff because I notice when they have the next one the same stuff isn't there! What an opportunity but what a lot of work too! Hope you manage to succeed.
Gail, I hope you have a great time, and I like how you were able to change your perspective and attitude :) When I change my attitude to a positive one, things go a whole lot better :) HUGS!

Let go and let God...Let it be... let it begin with me...
One time when I was real lonely and depressed I had a garage sale it it turned out to be a great way for me to realize how despereate I was for human contact.
I was excited to see people "come to visit me" lol...
Thanks all for your perspectives/input. Since posting my feelings of dread of the yard sale, I've felt better. I've placed my focus on meeting new people, having a few laughs with them and observing people walking away with some treasures they'll enjoy. I'm pricing things low so they will go!
We made a vow that the items will not be going back up in the attic. Most items are in great shape and others can use them.
