I was just thinking about the expression: NOW A WORD FROM OUR SPONSORS! Isn't that kind of funny. I never thought of that before. My sponsor has a lot of wisdom & experience--she has been in the Program for almost 13 years. I know what she says comes from her heart. I have nothing but respect & admiration for her. She is so busy but usually gets back to me as soon as she can!
To all of you who have sponsors: let them know that you appreciate them.
Another thing I was discussing w/ a friend: We think that we are not only there for ourselves but for the others that show up at our meetings. It is a selfish program but when it all comes down to it, we need to fill a chair so that others can find support not just because of us. So, no matter what, keep opening the doors for others even if you feel that no one is showing up. That's how I felt before: that no one--well...not no one but very few have passed through the doors of our meetings & have stayed.
It is so good we have each other; let's not take each other for granted.
Stepping onto a brand-new path is difficult, but not more difficult than remaining in a situation, which is not nurturing to the whole woman.- Maya Angelo
Yep, it is practicing our 5th Tradition to help support families and friends of alcoholics. I do so by first going selfishly for me because I need the meeting. But when we share our E,S,H in the meeting, it helps the newcomer.
I adore my sponsor. She is quite elderly and hasnt been at a meeting in several months. I talk with her on the phone weekly. I do so hope her health will return because it is so comforting to sit next to her while she is sharing.
