Today's Courage to Change Sept 16 - struggling a bit with this one

in the 3rd paragraph from this reading it says

"We are powerless over the results of our actions.  We can try to make wise choices today, but what will happen in the future is out of our hands.  Since we can't know what to expect, why not trust that a Higher Power can use whatever happens to further our growth?"

OK, in theory I understand what this is trying to say.  But I do somewhat believe in the concept of Karma.  I know that no we have no ultimate control how things will turn out based on our actions - that we can only hope what the outcome will be but I still struggle with this at times.  I know I have no control over outcomes but I would hope, usually, that if I make good choices my outcomes will be better.  Otherwise, why make good choices to begin with??  LOL

Just wondered what anyone else thought

I totally believe what we put out to the universe we get back, call it karma, universal justice, whatever, it can go further than that in biblical sense of we reap what we sow. I do believe that if you make good choices even if we give it over to HP, it's just more likely you will get good back. When the good will hit?? That's taking a leap of faith and not obsessing about what the future of when it is going to happen or what the results are. Unhealthy choices are going to equal unhealthy consequences. Again it might not happen right when WE think it should, it's going to happen.

I think that is more about not obsessing about what the future is going to bring. It's trusting that our HP is going to take care of us even if we are just taking a leap of faith. That's why I like the concept of "acting as if". I believe that if I make good choices now my future consequence will be good outcome. There is no guarantee, there is no contract that says just because I make good choices there will be good consequences that is all on faith.

The thought that hits me regarding the "outcome" of our actions is... Did I do the best I could with what (information, health, emotional well being etc.) I had at the time?

did I use the best judgement I could at the time... if so I believe "good" Karma, reaping what I sow etc. will be what I recieve.

My Higher Power is loving, forgiving and knows all,, he knows what my intentions were so even if there are "bad" earthly results from my choices, there is no bad "karma" so to speak.

Just my take on what I know at this time.

I agree with what the others say. A leap of faith that good things will be the results of my good actions. Eventually...... But we all know, only too well, that bad things do happen... To others.... and to us. That doesn't mean we shouldn't still have faith. It just means that we have to go through one more valley before we get to the hilltop. It means there is a reason that we don't yet see for us to spend some time getting out of that valley. But that is what faith is..... we will get to go to the hilltop.

I like that 3rd paragraph excerpt, "Why not trust that a HP can use that whatever happen to further our growth?  It reminds me of that 3rd step decision, "turn our will and lives over to the care of God as we understood Him"

It kinda says to me, I dont have the power to screw this deal up.  That a power greater than myself can fix any trouble I find myself in and do it with my greater good in mind.

Surrender, Trust, and making that decision in turning my will and life over to a HP was one a leap of faith in the beginning.  Today it is much easier as I get better when I continue to get more practice in doing so.
