What am I going to do with what I've got?

This is today's question in ODAAT September 9, pg 253.

Wow, ... what am I going to do with what I've got?  Am I using what I have to the best of my ability?

I thought about my graditude list and how I've got so very much to be grateful for.  I don't know that I can do an A - Z, Q and Z trip me up .. LOL.  Athough I'm grateful for the quiet I get during the day while the kids are at school lol .. z is a toughie.

So that is my question for myself today, .. the really great thing about that question is I know I'm doing the best I can with the tools I have and I get better tools every single day thanks to alanon f2f and MIP.

Thank you biggrin

Hi Pushka

Love the topic I must make a gratitude and an ASSET list each day. The asset list helps me to see "What I have Inside" and my gratitude list helps me to focus on what I have .

When I can truly see myself and all I have worked for and been given, I can clearly see my tools and use them effectively.

I too like "Q "for the quiet time and I use visits to the Bronx Zoo for "Z" .

Hi Ruby

My gratitude list goes something like I am grateful for: My health, My job, My apartment, my friends,, my husband, my ability to exercise, my program my sponsor etc

My asset list was difficult for me (and for my sponsees to see and to admit) It is the parts of us that we were told to ignore that t to talk about ourselves in such a manner was arrogant and that we should be humble and unassuming

Al anon told me that in order to have self esteem I had to own my assets and build on them. In order to do that I needed to list them daily and accept that this was a real part of me. I could still be humble knowing I had good to contribute. to my world . So I began slowly and I listed:

I am intelligent, honest, kind, generous, compassionate, loving, attractive, have a good speaking voice, can play guitar, love opera, dancing, driving etc  you can go on endlessly

Doing both these lists daily, I finally learned to accept myself as a worth while person who had a power greater than themselves on whom I could rely.

I take my gratitude and my assets out into the world each day and live with HP's guidance.    They are both powerful tools

Pushka I cannot use" Z "for zipper.  Since I stopped smoking I have gained 8 pounds and cannot zipper!!!!  I am wrking on it but it is difficultsmile

hotrod, thank you so much for your examples of  my assets, I'll start using this in my recovery, it came at just the right time, I've a friend who loves to tease and put me down in a joking manner, I've asked him not to do that, if he continues I'll have to avoid him realizing I can't change him and apparently he didn't want to since it the change would have to come from him.  I have noticed he is making an effort not to tease and play with me like that, also I started doing the same to him, I can see he doesn't like it, but I don't want that kind of relationship where we are both tearing each other dowm instead of building each other up...Thanks again!   With love...Ruby!

Being content with what I have is incredibly difficult for me.  I feel chronically deprived no matter what.

Its a real issue.

P,

I just love the post.  The part about Z for zip up my pants put a smile on my face.  Q seems to always stand for quiet for me.  With two and seven year old boys at home, quiet time is few and far between.    Thank God for school starting!

I love the asset list myself.  I was encouraged to do so after my 5th step because I could not see those assets that were hidden in me.  All I could see before the 5th step was all of my defects and stinkin thinking.  But today, the greatest asset for me that comes to mind is that I am teachable.  I think I finally found that place after getting to a point in my life where I felt like an abject failure.    That is one of the reasons why I turned to alanon looking for hope, peace, and serenity.

Yesterday I was doing my readings out of C2C.  I am going to check out the one from yesteray that you recommended.  It sounds like a keeper.  Thanks for sharing.

xoxo,

tommye

what about
z-axis

1.the third axis in a 3-dimensional coordinate system

You, your A, and your higher power.
3C's
the trilogy (in any religion, the virgin the mother and the crone... father son and the holy ghost)
with three dimensions to the coordinates, its easier to be found when you are lost.

Or if you don't like that what about
Zealous

1.marked by active interest and enthusiasm; "an avid sports fan"; "a great walker"; "an eager beaver"
2.Filled with, or characterized by, zeal; warmly engaged, or ardent, in behalf of an object.

Just thoughts (thankyou google)

Pushka, I really enjoy reading your posting. Gratitude has been my priority this week as well. I've been thanking my HP for keeping me healthy these past months. For the past two years, I've suffered with high blood pressure and it was not well controlled. It  took some time before my body adjusted to the meds. Now, I have a sense of relief because I am not hospitalized as often. Grateful for that! Also, I am grateful for my family and friends. They have been so supportive of me during my difficult times. Furthermore, I am grateful for the people that are on this MIP forum. Everytime I log on, there is someone here. Thank God for angels like you.

Recently, my Sponsor started to list my assets. I had overlooked so many assets. Self sobotage was my problem. Glad to be here. Will coming back.
