Open AA Meeting ..

Went to another wonderful open speaker AA meeting and I have to say this is on my rotation of meetings.  They are just terrific!

I really encourage anyone to go to a meeting to see the other side of the coin.  It is like being at an alanon meeting and hearing your own story through someone else.  Listening to an RA who has been working their program puts it into perspective of how powerless we (loving the addict) really are over the bounds of addiction as the loved one.

It was so good to see all of the people from the alanon family there at the meetings and seeing how none of us (the addicts or the codependents) are really alone.  It brought home once again the amount of emotional pain my addict is in, I've watched him struggling with his emotions recently.  It breaks my heart to think he is in that kind of pain, and is not finding any kind of relief.  He's in a self imposed isolation.  We (him and I) aren't that different from each other really. I needed that kind of reminder.

I agree - attending open AA meetings are quite helpful. I attend one particular group with my ex; many of the members at this meetings are old timers. Love their wisdom!

I too love the perspective of both rooms.  I really enjoy a open AA discussion meeting on Sunday mornings which is on steps 10,11 & 12.  There is a tremendous turnout from both programs and the meeting has to be split into two groups one going into the Alanon room for the most people to share.  There seems to be equal particiaption in sharing ESH.  It seems to me we are all cut from the same cloth so to speak.  It has helped me to hear from members of AA how they practice their program.

I love open AA as well. I also got to try a new meeting last night, ACOA. That was just awesome. I love all three kinds of meetings. Maybe I will one day find a Naranon meeting... All of it helps. :) It is amazing that the meetings helps so many of us, and that it really does work to focus on your own self care to get better :)

I must say I enjoy open AA meetings too. I once had a sponsor who discouraged this idea. Yet, I did what I wanted and don't regret it. It is the best thing I've done to understand this disease and the A in my life. Good for you, Pushka.

Thanks for sharing.
