I've been in the position of having a landlord change and understand the anxiety.

You're in the right place being in al anon. Al anon can help you work out what to do right now, how to plan for a future and to stop catastophizing.

In most states if a landlord changes hands they have to give a tenant ample notice to move.  In theory they are not supposed to be able to retailiate if you ask for repairs.  Of course in many cases they don't exactly want to do them.  That's one reason its a good idea to keep records.

My current landlord does as little as possible and is loathe to make certain repairs and correct certain issues.  I have had to re-evaluate how and when I complain and be as specific as possible.  In essence I make any complaint and request in writing.

I'm glad you are here in this program.

Maresie.

If you look up Landlord Tenant law in your state. ex oregon landlord tenant law, look in the part about getting things fixed.

In Oregon you have to do it in writing. I would write it, copy it and fax or mail it. Or all three.

In oregon he has to fix any appliance that was in the rental when you started renting. he cannot retaliate and evict you.

In most states if they don't fix things in a certain amount of time, they can be sued for two times the rent etc.

If you would like to share the state you are in I would be happy to help you. Just becuz he is an attorney does not mean he knows landlord tenant law. Most do not.

Most tenants do not know you have rights, lots of them. Glad you came here!
