Hi Family: Just feel like venting a bit today. Still not working and I depend on my AH for medical benefits and finances to pay our bills. My AH is back on his drinking and driving cycle. He had stop for a while, but now is happening daily. I can not afford to be without his income nor his medical benefits. It is a dangerous and vulnerable place for me. Never been in this situation before. I have always worked and have had medical benefits. Now, I feel that things can change if he gets a DUI. What resources are available besides COBRA, which I cannot afford anyway? Any ideas???
Has anyone been through this besides me???? If so, can you share, please. I appreciate it. Thanks so much. Hawaiilover
Have you looked into your state fund? I know there have been lots of cuts however there are all kinds of programs out there you have to really ask a lot of questions. It's one of those deals if you get a "no" you aren't asking the right question or the right person. Have you considered also catastrophic insurance? Sometimes those premiums can be a LOT less money than COBRA. See about what programs are offered and what you would qualify for you might be surprised it sure can't hurt to ask.
Those are only suggestions some of which I have looked into when my AH has transferred between jobs.
Hugs P :)

Not sure where you are, but adults in my state can get Medicaid, just can't make much money to get it. There is another option as well. Call your local social services and see whats offered. Or google it for your state? There is that 211 number, that you can call too.

Thank you, Alanon family, for all your good suggestions. I appreciate your responding with your experience, strength, and hope. Will look into each one. Hugs to all.
There is also the United Way.... Most states you just have to dial "211" on your phone. You tell them your situation and they direct you to all sorts of resources.
Stay strong! (((hugs)))
