Scientist at the Planck Inst. in Germany did a study on 18 month old babies. Researchers tested several different scenarios, In all the scenarios, the researchers needed help. For example, they couldnt reach an item on the floor. During the experiments, the babies inadvertently rushed to help people, including strangers. Researchers also found that the babies indeed intended to help, rather than treating the items as toys. The babies also showed no expectation of getting anything in return for their help. Researchers pointed out that this result was quite meaningful because of the young age of the test subjects. They were still in diapers and couldnt even speak. However , they were fond of helping others. In 84% of the scenarios babies started helping others within 10 seconds. When someone needs help, what is our first reaction? Do we assess whether helping others will be beneficial or harmful to ourselves or do we like babies simply lend a hand.
Very Interesting, thought I would pass it along.

For me I earned my chair in alanon for helping those that didnt want my help.
Today I only help those that ask for my help. In the case of my children, 2 & 7, I deprive them of discovering how to do it themselves. Whether or not it is opening an object or unlocking a door, I wait patiently in the background until they reach the point of frustration and invite me in. The same is true for people in alanon. If some asks me for help, I share my es&h, if they don't I give them my love.
