recovery on TV

I don't know what y'all think but I am happy when recovery is mentioned on TV. I find it very refreshing! I was watching a show yesterday(let it be nameless) that mentioned AA more than once & that the gal is in recovery from alcohol/drug addiction--anyhow, she took her father to an AA meeting & he now has a clearer idea about what the program is about! He is probably eligible for Alanon too! I hope he too gets help!

It is possible that family members will get help if they want help--they too need to get out  of their DENIAL & find what they need! I am hoping for the Alanon community to grow! It would be so great to see!

Let's just keep the program going & going!

Love you all!

Kathleen

My ears purk up too.  I like to watch TV with my husband (who is not in a program) at night and it is so funny when recovery pops into the story line he jokingly pops up with stuff like:

"Oh, that is Step 5" ....even though he has no idea what step 5 is

"You just have to Let Go and Let God"  speaking directly to the TV

"Lady you are powerless"  again, talking to the TV.

These things have contributed to so much laughter in my home.

Thanks for sharing,

Tommye

I agree Kathleen! I think having these discussions out in the open is wonderful. Makes it acceptable and understandable rather than something perceived as shameful.

I have often wondered about what would happen if everyone without an alcohol problem told the A they had a problem. Would some get the message? Would it be less socialy acceptable?

It would be interesting to have something to counter all the booze advertising and pretty cans and bottles etc.

The active A has a support system of other active A's telling them it is ok.

Just a thought...
