Taking Off Some of the Pressure

smile My HP delivered a message LOUD AND CLEAR to me this morning and I am so incredibly grateful for it!

My AH is a plumber.  We live in a rental apartment.  Our water pressure is amazing - we don't have a massager shower head but the water pressure is so great that our ordinary shower head delivers quite an intense shower.  The drain, however, is very very slow.  For the past 2 months I have been asking my husband (the plumber) to snake the drain so that the water doesn't back up creating a slippery hazard in the bathtub.  He's been saying he'll do it, he'll do it, but he hasn't done it.

I grew up in a house that had well water and the pressure was lousy.  Turning the water completely on would still deliver a mediocre shower.  Also, my family of origin is riddled with alcoholics.  Functioning alcoholics, but alcoholics nevertheless.

This morning, as I prepared to take a shower, it dawned on me (thank you, HP!) that I didn't have to turn the water on full blast.  Our water pressure is sufficient to deliver a perfectly good shower at less than half of full blast.  I did that and took my shower with the drain able to keep up with the water coming out of the shower head from gathering at my feet in the bathtub.  Less pressure, less danger, more satisfaction.

The metaphor is NOT lost on me - I can take some of the pressure off of myself by lightening the load, by turning my issues around on myself and working out how to best handle them.  I do not need to look to others, especially my AH, to fix certain things, I just have to get creative and think outside of my own limited perspective of habit and previous experience.  The serenity prayer brought to reality - grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can AND THE WISDOM TO KNOW THE DIFFERENCE.

I feel so blessed to have had this minor "spiritual awakening" this morning, even more so that I was able to kick off my day in such a positive, empowering way!

Much love, support and empathy,

Marianne

Great awareness and great post thanks for the smile! Sometimes the message is delivered in the little everyday things like that.

I liked this post too. Feel grateful that you are making spiritual progress and that is why these metaphors are coming to you now.

Marianne,

Good for you.  Since you let go of the results, wouldn't it be funny if he fixed it without asking?

I love it! It's amazing to discover there are options out there. I just had my garage door and opener professionally tuned up. Wow! Unbelievable to think of the inconvenience I put up with for years, and it took all of $250 to fix.

So glad you could see the blessing and how it relates to your life. Yes, take the pressure off!

Blessings,
Lou
