Al-Anon life changing experience

I had coffee with a friend of mine this morning and we were catching up on news. I told her i had been attending al-anon meetings since October and how much progress I have made already. She told me one of her best friend said al-anon is a life changing experience. I let that statement sync in but I have to admit, is it ever. So I thought i would share this when in doubt, it all took us (al-anon and AA members alike) courage to go through the doors and work the steps. when in doubt and we cannot let go of the pain, hurt, resentment etal, it works if you work it. when in doubt lets remember we will reach serenity by working our steps, maybe not today or tomorrow but still better than yesterday. we all make mistakes, we are not perfect, we learn and keep working. we react because we are hurt? Not the end of the world is it? It's painful, uncomfortable, maybe we feel guilty and ashamed? isn't being aware a first step towards recovery? anyway i am losing track here but let's be grateful for such programs and the impact on everybody's lives.

I was quite resistant to attend meetings for a long, long time. I felt if I had attended before I was ready, it would have been by the will of others dragging me in backwards as I kicked and screamed, NO! NO! I'm sure my heels would have left skid marks all the way to the door.

After only a little more than 3 months, I can say without doubt that Al-Anon is a life-changing experience if you work the program. I already see major changes in me, especially the baggage of guilt lifted in the short amount of time I've attended. And to think, I haven't even begun the steps.
