Do Not Feed The Animals

.......read a sign in a local state park.....

D O   N O T   F E E D   T H E   A N I M A L S ...

You will DESTROY their natural instinct for survival

The sign reminds me of myself before I walked into the rooms of Alanon.  Enabling, doing for others rather than myself, covering up lies, protecting loved ones from natural consequences.

Alanon has taught me that the only person I can fix, help, and change is myself.  When I keep my hands off others and focus on myself by working the steps, I remember I have choices.   I thank God for Alanon and for teaching me a new way to live.

Aloha TeC...what a great metaphor...When I think about how much my life was like a zoo that sign and your share fits very very well.  Today I stay out of zoos.  smile

I love it and it makes so much sense! We used to have horses before this disease took over for the 100th time in my life and we had a sign that said do not feed fingers to the horses! It always made me laugh. But as I think on your sign now I fed the Animal in my life lots of me over the years and now I am sitting at the STOP sign. And not looking to turn towards any routes with warning curvy road ahead signs, LOL. Great analogy.

Wow... that is so perfect for Al-Anon!

An ideal illustration of how what seems like a kindness in the short term is actually bad in the long term...
