Our Lives Can Change In The Blink Of An Eye

Some of you know I am in the ladies apparel wholesale business. I buy 90% of my apparel from one company. The owner and I have been the best of friends, more like brothers for 15 years. He is like family a wonderful carring man in his early 40's with a wife and two children. We value and respect each others opinions. His business is in another state so at least once a week we talk at length in the evening after I get home. We talked over an hour this past Friday night about some new garments he placed in production this past week. He was very excited.

Life can change in the blink of an eye.

My friend lives in a major city in southern Fla. This morning on his way to work at 7:30 AM he was involved in an accident. He was hit by a drunk driver driving on the wrong side of the road head on.  The drunk driver left the left the scene of the accident, but was caught and arrested a few minutes later. He was not injured. My friend is listed in critical condition in the hospital. I was told a few minutes ago by his sweet wife that by the grace of God he will survive, he's not in a coma anymore. He is talking some. He has two severely broken shoulders that will require several operations, and long term rehap. He also other broke bones and lacerations. She did mention he is not out of the woods yet.

So uncalled for, so unnecessary, so tragic. One more time this disease that effects all of us has effected someone who least deserved it. Yes, my friends life was changed in the blink of and eye by someone whose mind, body, and spirit is consumed, and controlled by alcohol and who had total disregard for anyone within the reach of its wrath. I have no guilt or reservations when I say I so hate and despise this disease. I am powerless.

HP please be with my friend and restore him to health, I love him dearly.

Thank you in advance for your prayers.

HUGS,

RLC

Yikes... so sorry to hear about yet another pointless, and tragic alcohol related incident....  Glad to hear your friend is on the mend....

I dunno - I know we are "powerless" over some of this stuff, but it really does irk me when I see all those tv commercial for law firms that specialize in "getting people off the hook" on drunk driving charges....

Sigh.... wish I had the answers...

Dear RLC

I am so very sorry for the pain that has been  caused to you and your friend and family  by this dreadful disease.

The misery that follows in the wake of alcoholism is so hard to accept and understand.

Sincere prayers that HP will hold you and your dear friend in His arms and that healing will be swift

(((RLC))) I too hate this disease. It's bad enough what it does to the As who are in it's power, but it's so frightening to see what it does to completely innocent bystanders. Your friend and his family are in my prayers.

It makes me mad to read this kind of story. There are too many people who mind their own business and their lives get affected forever by drunk drivers.

I am being judgemental and i know these guys are powerless....

I wish your friend all the best and hope he will get better soon. Take care of yourself.

I am a little shocked to see the responses in this thread, with some assuming "the disease of alcoholism" has yet claimed another victim.

The ones that call it an alcohol related incident seem more accurate to me.

No one knows if the drunk driver is an alcoholic or if it was an isolated incident.

My prayers are with your friend for a speedy recovery as well as the family.  It is truly horrible to see someone in such a poor position.

Blessings

(((Rod)))...God another "shot heard round the world" How many people this will affect ..."again".   From my experience and education a drunk driver will have driven drunk up to 400 times before the event that will cause them to be caught.   Drunk driving is driving inspite of the awareness that it is life and property threatening.  That this driver  ran reveals the awareness and mostly ran because of consequences for themself rather than to your friend.

Feeling powerless is maddening.  I understand your anger soooo intimately.  My anxiety and concern and anger locally is that no one seems to have the courage to change the situation...inspite of proposal.

Prayers for your friend and his family...for the drunk also...and for all of us who get a nasty reaction to this because of our relationship to the disease.   (((((hugs)))))

You are such a caring, tender man. It's so awful that this has happened!

I hope he has lots of support. What helps the most in my experience is cards or just notes, flowers whatever.

Love is what helps us heal the best! I will keep him in my prayers. YOU too.

Love,debilyn

I sit here in my far away room and think how little I can do to ease your pain. I can feel it with you - RLC, if that helps at all.
