Boyfriend is depressed

I have been living with my boyfriend for 2 and a half years, we have had a good few abusive arguments and two weeks ago we were going to split up, until we both got so upset that we decided to give it another go, he promised he would change although he did blame me for the argument, saying I sided with my family and never stuck up for him (a member of the family told someone a private thing about him). Even though I apologised for this. He has just started a new job on Monday and hates it, every night he has came home depressed and wont talk to me, I dont know what to do, he has been affected by his fathers drinking although doesnt have a programme.  I feel so guilty as involved my family in the argument that led us to nearly finish and he feels isolated from everyone now. I am just looking for some support and comfort I cant stop crying today.  Thanks smile

Jules,

So glad you are here. This is a wonderful place, MIP. Please consider going to Alanon if you have not been to a meeting before. I have had some experience very similar to yours in my life and it was the face to face meetings in Alanon that really helped me. Alanon is in the phone books or you can find information online. I think you will find comfort that there will be many people like yourself with the same stories in face to face meetings.

Keep coming back. I encourage you to continue to share here. This is a safe place.

Thanks Tommye I have not been to a meeting in a few weeks, at the moment I cant face it, my parents are both in recovery, my father in AA and my mother in Alanon, I know I need to go back to alanon but it feels better to even write this down.  Thanks for your response....smile

Hi Jules

Welocem to MIP  I am glad you have been attending ALANON and have found this wonderful site.

You have indicated that your boyfriedn has been affected by his Dad's drinking and is sad , isolated and depressed  I believe he would benefit from attending alanon meetings as well.  Pick up some booklets at your next meeting, try to discuss this disease with him  and this may be the light you both  need to move forward

 Good luck
