Today's thought - I have made mistakes

Today I accept the fact that I have made mistakes.

I find comfort in knowing that, in the past, I did what I thought was right at the time. What makes my mistakes seem so bad is that I judge them by what I know today. I know more than I did then, and less than I will tomorrow.

I trust that, in the future, I will not make the same mistakes. I have more information now, and I will be able to handle things differently and make wiser choices. I accept myself for who I was then, and for who I am today.

I think it was Maya Angelou that said, "when you know better, you do better".

Early in recovery I caught myself saying gosh, I wish I had found Alanon sooner. What I know today is God is never late. He has perfect timing. Everything in my life, mistakes and all it took what it took to get me in the rooms. I didn't arrive one second too soon or too late.

Thanks for sharing.

(((Gladlee)))

I needed that today smile.gif

Lately I have been thinking about a book I had as a child titled "NoBody's Perfekt" ... I can not remeber the author. It helps to remind me that by making mistakes I learn in AlAnon, in addition to other areas and as I finish the semester and start finals this is a great thing to remember LOL

Thank you!
Jen

Perfect timing! I'm struggling to "let go" of a past mistake. I'm writing this down and reading it every time I think about rehashing it. It'll help me move on in a postive manner.

You can't learn from your mistakes if you don't make any.

Wow, I really like that one, and hadn't heard it said that way....  One of my favorite old sayings, has always been:

I did the best I could, with what I knew at the time...

Thank you so much for sharing this.

It reminds me a bit when I think about how my parents had "hurt" me in the past. I know they did what they were taught and did the best they knew how. If I can accept it of other people, then I should be able to accept myself.
