Funny how if one person is accused of being crazy, many of us would have a knee jerk reaction and say "No I Am Not!" Soon a fight ensues and the AH is out the door doing what they do best. It is just one way for an AH to take the focus off their behavior and deflect it to another person. That is part of the insanity of the disease.
When the "insanity circus" is in town, Alanon reminds me that I dont have to buy a ticket to ride. The only way I can see the circus is in town is by going to Alanon meetings, working the steps with a sponsor, and doing service work. Then and only then can I see that the invitation to the "insanity circus" is just that, an invitation. I don't have to argue or defend, I can just let the circus blow through.
Difficult, though, isn't it? Easy to say "they are crazy, not me" but it still hurts deep down and takes great strength to remember it is THEM, NOT you. I know I have to keep repeating it to myself, over and over again. Doesn't mean it won't still hurt.
Insanity Circus indeed! When my W goes off she often turns to me and says, "You're looking at me like I'm crazy"! I just keep my mouth shut. But, inside I'm thinking, "You aren't crazy honey, you're drunk".
I am thankful that I have a program because I no longer personalized the disease. When accusations are flying I simply think well, the clowns are in town. It kind of makes me laugh to myself. Humor is closer to joy and acceptance rather than anger and resentment. It was Alanon that gave me a new perspective. I am forever grateful for the program.
There have been a lot of sayings I've taken to use and INSANITY CIRCUS is now one of them - very appropriate eh? Cheers and thanks!
