Moving toward going back to school

So I am 40 years old and interested in starting college in the fall.

I just received notice of an estimated grant I will get.

I am so excited!!!  This is something major to me.  Not only will I get to learn and continue to grow, but I can put the focus back on me!!!  It means more independence for me!

Just what I needed to hear at the right time.  I stood my ground today and took more time for me.  And now I have learned that I will have other things that I can put my interest in besides, well, not so good stuff.

Yay!!!  Just wanted to share.

Congratulations. I was a college grad at age 43. You will never regret it. I never have. And yes, it will take your mind to new places.

YAY! I am 39 and in the craziness of preparing for finals already this semester with more than full time classes and full time work ... it can sometimes seem to be a whole new kind of insanity I am putting myself in but I have never been happier with myself or with my life. It is exciting to do something you want to do and that will give you new perspectives, congrats!

I'm glad for you. I started back to school to finish my degree last fall. It was the best thing I could do for myself and my three children. I am 36.

It builds my self esteem when I achieve passing scores on material that is not easy to learn. It expands my mind because I love to learn new things.

Last year at this time I never would have dreamed it possible to be able to have the opportunity to go back to college. I was so beaten down and depressed.

I still have rough times, but I get through them more quickly. I have even met a girl at college who is in Al Anon, so it is great to have someone to talk to at school.

So best of luck to you. I think you have made a wonderful choice.

Kath

YAY for you!

I did not get my teaching credential until age 45.  Some family members would ask, WHY now?

People have to get over this age business.  Once, I attended a university course with a guy that looked around 80.

Again, YAY.............. for you  clap.gif

Why now? Why not?

I want to thank you all for your support. I know my post was a bit off topic, but I just wanted to share my happiness for a change.

I'm not sure what I will be taking, hoping to head toward human services. I finally found something that I have an interest in.

There are a lot of good things in my life and I am going to take one day at a time and appreciate all that I have. And yes, I think that meeting new people is an added plus. I'm not sure if everything will work out, but that's ok too. I feel positive about the future and that's what counts at this moment.

I'm in a good place right now. Thanks for all of the help in getting me here.

Awesome stuff, and good for you....  Your post reminds me of a great "aha" moment I heard at an AA/Al-Anon rally several years ago.... The speaker was a recovering alcoholic, some 20 years sober..... She was 65 at the time, and was an extremely well spoken, proud registered nurse....  She was reflecting on her story - she finally got sober around the age of 46, and was working with her sponsor, and they were trying to figure out if she had any lifelong dreams that she could be pursuing.....  She told her sponsor that she had always dreamed of being an RN, from the time she was a little girl.... She then went on to add that this dream was not worth pursuing, as "by the time I finished my schooling, I would be 50".....

Her sponsor replied with the very profound words  "hmmm, to the best of my ability you are going to be 50 anyways, so why not become a nurse?"  This lady had no answer, other than to stop delaying and entered the nursing program....  She absolutely loved her job, her life, and her sobriety..... that one always stuck with me, as I have that same tendency - to look at the obstacles, instead of the possibilities....

Take care

Tom
