This morning I was meditating which I've just recently started doing. I've worked my way up to 10 minutes, but it is still hard for me to completely erase my mind for that long and breathe the correct way. Today I kept forgetting to focus on my breathing, and it was almost like I was holding my breath. Then I remembered when people always say "don't hold your breath". People say this out of frustration. Someone will ask "Do you think he will stop drinking?" And the snide response is typically "Well, don't hold your breath." It kind of hit me how important this cliche is. It basically says "Keep on living. Don't stop breathing. Don't stop living your life. That person is going to do what they are going to do. Don't lose life over it." Just a simple little thing that I will carry with me today and wanted to share.
nice thoughts.....I think your analogy was quite good. By the way the paradox of meditation is that you don't worry about thoughts invading in. Allow them in and sweep them out. Or better yet allow them to "pass through"...too fight them is to hold on to them.....hmmmm....that sounds like an analogy too.
