Well, I had a very difficult time finding the meeting place! It was raining, street was rather dark, tall trees all around blocking addresses. I fought back the thought that perhaps I wasn't meant to find the place. But I pressed onward knowing it was just fear. I finally found the place.
A lady was standing outside the door when I approached the building; I said hi to her and she just about jumped out of her skin. It was only her second meeting and she was a pile of nerves. She said she was standing outside trying to get herself together. I wanted to hug her, but her vibes told me to keep my distance.
The meeting went well. I even volunteered to read The 3 Obstacles. (I think the teacher part of me helps me speak in front of others.) I felt pretty good, but it was still ackward.
I'm so glad I went. I broke the ice at 2 different meetings now. I'm going back.

Hi, great to here that you enjoyed the meeting. I could not go to my friday night meeting ;last night due to other commitments, but I knew I needed a meeting so I too tried a new one this morning it was great. Al anon is a world wide fellowship every meeting I have tried I have been a bit nervous when entering but I have always been amde to feel welcome. I do have reagular meetings but love to go to new ones and really love conventions too I like to meet new al anon member they have so much to share that helps me to understand this wonderful ptogramme.
That's wonderful -- thanks for reporting back. Your journey there reminds me of the bigger journey -- there are lots of obstacles in our way but if we keep being determined to take care of ourselves, we get there at last. It sounds as if you were a friendly face for the worried newcomer, too. So glad you made it and broke the ice and that it went well.
Good for you Gail and good for the program...participation is a key concept and with your tools of persistence and commitment to your recovery we will all do better. (((((hugs)))))
