Is there a recommended interval between group inventories? The manual states periodic intervals. I was under the impression it was every 2-3 years. Is it necessary to ask all the questions in the G8 form? Our group did an inventory 3 years ago and found it exceptionally helpful. We learned a great deal. We now have many newcomers and doing another one seemed like a good idea to maintain the established health of the group.
My group has a Quarterlyy Group Business Meeting. These meetings are run so that any issue that may have surfaced or any change anyone wishes to suggestcan be placed on the table, discussed and voted on. These Business meetings keep the meetings healthy and new comers informed
I have only been to one Group Inventory Meeting. That was held because many members were unhappy with the format and it could not be resolved at the regular business meeting.
My answer would be -- if you are holding regular business meetings and the meeting is healthy Vote on the need for the Group Inventory and proceed
Our group did a group inventory 3 years ago and we learned much; we were able to alter our methods somewhat to accomodate the most common issues raised. Because of our meeting format most of our time is for sharing time limited because of the size and as much limit to cross talk as possible. The group inventory was a valuable tool to bring to everyone's attention issues we were not addressing. (progress not perfection)
We have a volunteer group to manage the inventory and are using the G8 guideline from the Al-Anon website. It is an opportunity for service on a small, short-term basis. Many of our members have found their voice by participating in the inventory and discussing their experience with their sponsors. We will be finished some time by the beginning of April.
