projecting into the future

It's been awhile since I phoned my former sponsor (from the former state I lived in) but I got to talk with her yesterday.  I asked her about her new grandchild... her voice was so full of joy!

I told her how I had been fantasizing about becoming a grandmother... even though I am waaay into the future with those thoughts.  I've been battling some fearful thoughts that just seem to pop into my head because my daughter will be deploying to Afghanistan this summer.  I've had to erase those traumatic images, replacing them instead with images of her future wedding... her future childbirth experience... etc.  I told my sponsor that I realize I'm not staying in the moment, that I'm projecting.... but if I don't, those thoughts will consume me and suddenly, I am no longer emotionally sober!  My sponsor completely validated me by saying something she has ALWAYS said to me, I just forgot,

"If you're going to project into the future....  project something GOOD."

Then she laughs, it's an awesome laugh!

I am (and will be!) so blessed. Thanks for listening  ((friends))

What a great reminder!  Thanks for sharing this, glad lee! smile

I guess the mental energy used to project positively and negatively would be about the same -- but the end result for our own feelings would be very different.

So true!  Thanks for the reminder  smile

I really, really needed it because somethings in my life are sure not going the way I'd hope.

Paul Harvey the late newsman once said: "Our daughters can never marry anyone nearly good enought for them, but have grandchildren that are better than anybody's". I have a daughter so I can appreciate that.

I have never thought thinking positive now or into the future was a bad thing, it's ten times better than the opposite.

HUGS,
