I am new to this posting and found it by accident. I have been sporadic with Al-Anon meetings, had a sponsor who didn't follow up, so I used it as an excuse to give up last time. I found myself with another alcoholic...REALLY?? Ugh. I am open to any encouraging words and suggestions to keep me on track. I am determined to get well and follow the steps and work the program. I am tired of being un-well
I am glad that you stumbled onto this board. It is a very safe and calming place. There are so many members full of knowledge here. I have learned a lot.
Well one thing that we know for sure about being with an alcoholic is we are powerless over their drinking and mostly our lives become messed up.
We can become just as sick as they are. Alanon is made up of principles and a philosophy for us to recover, we just have to be willing, read the literature, attend face to face meetings and come here whenever you need to vent or read from our experiences and hope.
Keep coming back and share your feelings, you will get all the support you need. Just try to focus on you and not what the alcoholic is up too.
Welcome Shelly, and unfortunately your experience/story is a common one... if we don't change anything - for you - we often repeat those same behaviors, and almost seem to 'draw in' alcoholics into our lives.... Looking forward to hearing more from you....

Go back to your meetings they will be happy to see you back again and as for the sponsor well sponsorship works both ways , you also need to reach out and call her occasionally . I personally dont believe its a coincidence that you found this board , coincidence for me is when God directs but chooses to remain anonymous.. welcome back Louise
