Hi Everyone - I am still new to this forum and have seen lots of posts about the book "getting Them Sober". What is this book about? Also, I looked on Amazon and saw there is a work book? Would you recommend this book? And the workbook? Also, are there any other books anyone would recommend? I have a few al-anon books (3) but need more :) My husband is an A... currently not active...but frequently relapses. Thanks so much...
I love Courage to Change and even though its not Alanon, The Language of Letting Go. Also As we Understood... Getting Them Sober is an awesome book, I have only benefitted from it. :)

Please look towards top of this page for getting the book "getting them sober" one of our members sends them out for free and it is an awesome book to educate you on this disease and tools you can use to learn how to deal with this disease. Not sure what workbook you are talking about...there are several great books out there to help guide you on your path to recovery. The only workbook I have is the 4th step workbook. Courage to Change is a great book as is One Day at a time which is a daily reader. Have you been to a meeting yet? If not pls find one in your area and attend, they will have a beginners packet for you that can help you find what books might be good for you during different stages of your recovery. Welcome to the family Alanon is here to help you in your recovery and you have just found the most amazing people who will guide, support and understand you as no one else can. We do have meetings here online twice daily that are awesome...would love for you to join us Blessings
Thanks so much. I have been attending f2f meetings since June but have an infant at home and an AH so I am not able to go with much regularity (a few meetings a month). I love my one day at a time al anon daily reader and I have hte book the dilema of the alcoholic marriage. I need to check out an on-line meeting. Thanks for the invite.
I have book one and four of Getting them Sober. I also have the workbook. It is really a fantastic book and has been very helpful to me. It has practical and helpful ideas of how to handle everyday life with an A. Mine is sober but has been a dry drunk for many months now and I find that very frustrating especially after seeing him in his first year of recovery and how much he had changed. I thought it might not be helpful because mine is sober but I was delighted it was a great source for me.
I live in Canada and ordered them from my local Chapters book store. I had them in four days and they were pretty cheap.
I would definitely recommend both the book and workbook.

I am a huge advocate of the GTS books - particularly volume one.... I am not aware of the workbook, per se, but those books gave me validation, awareness, and helped educate me about living around alcoholism.... Toby is an awesome person, who has dedicated her life to helping us.... There are lots of good books out there, but I have yet to find anything that compares to these ones....
Take care Tom
p.s. don't put too much stock in "not conference approved" - that simply means that it wasn't written anonymously for Al-Anon..... These books are very widely used by thousands of people who are grateful members of Al-Anon.
